Theres Something to be Said for Rare Metals
Gold seems to have all of the marketing power behind the terms rare and precious metal, but platinum is more than twice as rare as gold. That explains the difference in price, but it also explains why Platinum is considered so valuable as an investment and in jewelry pieces. Owning something made of platinum is extra special, a sign that someone was being extra thoughtful when they bought a jewelry piece. The rarity of platinum is the type of thing that will elicit the knowing smile from discerning onlookers who can tell a platinum ring from a white gold counterpart.
No Allergic Reactions to Platinum Jewelry
Gold, silver, and nickel, are not hypoallergenic metals. That means each of these materials can actually cause rashes when someone with sensitive skin puts them on. Its especially true for the hands and, since thats where most jewelry is worn, its an important point to know as a jewelry shopper. Platinum, unlike the previous three metals, is hypoallergenic. That means no ring marks, no rashes, and no discomfort, when wearing a beloved accessory for a night on the town.
Low Maintenance is a Great perk
Anyone with silver or gold pieces can attest to the fact that theyll need some polishing after a few years of wearing. Its not necessarily a negative thing, and theyre easy to clean up and restore to their former glory. But why bother with that kind of maintenance when platinum offers a relatively maintenance-free solution? Unlike silver and gold, there is no danger of platinum tarnishing and losing that sparkle from the first day its taken out of the jewelry box. That bodes well for people who dont typically pencil in a trip to the jewelry on a regular basis simply for a routine jewelry polishing.
It Feels as Luxurious as it Looks
One notable thing about platinum is that it cannot be misconstrued as a lightweight metal. Indeed, when compared to a ring made of 18kt gold, a platinum ring often weighs as much as 60 percent more. That contributes to a sturdier feeling both in and on the hand, and it will be pretty hard to forget that the ring is there before getting into the shower or doing the dishes. Think of it as both a testament to the rings quality, and a guarantee that it wont take a ride through the trash disposal and drainage system at home.

Patek Philippe Its Masculine and Feminine Sides of Annual Calendar
One of the most famous Swiss watchmaking companies, Patek Philippe, in 2006 arranged a meeting with the press to present its latest innovation. The announcement concerned the first wheel in the world that is made in silicon for anchor escapement. This technical feature represents a revolution in the timepieces’ fabrication methods. The advanced research of the company aimed towards the elimination of the lubrication method.
During the press conference Patek Philippe presented one of its latest complication models which is entitled the “Annual Calendar”. This model will also be available for ladies because of its special feminine model. The company perpetually looks forward to make a perfect equilibrium between the historical tradition of watchmaking and technical research which leads to creating even more precise and advance movements in the field of timepiece manufacturing.
The Annual Calendar was launched and patented for the first time in 1996. This model is also called a “useful complication” because it is easy to use and it is also very readable. At the end of the 20th century this timepiece was the first model to include a function of automatic month display, day and date for every month that included 30 and 31 days. A single correction needed to me performed for February.
In order to manufacture this watch the watch masters from Patek Philippe replaced the cams and levers by gear trains. Thus the model included more components parts than another timepieces manufactured by Patek Philippe entitled Perpetual Calendar. For comparison: the Annual Calendar includes 330 parts and the Perpetual Calendar encompasses 275 parts. Despite the fact that the mechanical part of the watch is very complicated its architecture allows to assemble its component parts in an easier way.
In 1998 the Annual Calendar was upgraded with a power reserve indicator function as well as a lunar phase indicator with a very high precision. The accuracy of the moon phase display results in the fact that it is off by only 1 day every 122 years.
The new model of Annual Calendar was designed for the females as well. When the interest of women for mechanical timepieces grew, the company started creating special models for ladies. This is why it created a special Annual Calendar model for women. Although the watch kept its 37mm size of the case its dial was redesigned. Thus Patek Philippe was able to transform a masculine model of the watch into an elegant complicated timepiece.
The timepiece has a mother-of-pearl dial enriched with diamonds which adding a chic to the watch still keeps the original Patek touch. The very attractive Annual Calendar for women has a yellow or white gold case and its bezel is enriched with 156 round diamonds.
The watch has a marvelous natural white or a Tahitian black dial. The mother-of-pearl dial has Roman numerals and “leaf” hands made of gold. The alligator bracelet of the watch comes in mat champagne or in brilliant grey colors. The moon phase indicator is situated at 6 o’clock. The case of the model is made of sapphire crystal.
Using the latest technical equipment the company not only follows the standards of watchmaking but surpasses those creating new complicated watches with various functions that are considered to be the future of watchmaking.
